Notting Hill, London

Located on a small mews site in Notting Hill, we created a charming and sympathetic mews development in a conservation area encompassing two unique houses and two practical, commercial units.

While keeping in character with the local surroundings we maximised use of the limited space. This was achieved by introducing a double basement which did not impact on the visible scale of the development. This extra space accommodates a kitchen, dining areas and additional recreational rooms, such as cinema and gym/spa areas, and provides a lower level for the commercial units, complete with a double car stacker.

Natural light sources were enhanced wherever possible through the use of skylights, glazed floors, light wells into the courtyard gardens, glass balustrading and glass stair treads.

Attention to detail and careful choice of materials was critical to this project. We mixed traditional materials like natural slate and London stock brick that were already a part of the existing mews palette with complementary contemporary elements such as aluminium coping and frameless or concealed frame windows. The houses are beautiful, light and airy, and fit in well with the high quality homes in Notting Hill.
